I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). The current recommended fee is $218 per hour. A standard appointment lasts 50-60 minutes and my fee is currently $160 for the initial consultation and $140 for subsequent sessions. Payment is at the time of the appointment and may be by either cash or cheque.
If you have private health insurance you may find that these sessions are covered under the ‘extras’ tables. The rebate rate varies and you will need to consult your fund for detailed information.
Clients may also be eligible for Medicare rebates if they are referred by a Psychiatrist, consultant Paediatrician or by a General Practitioner who prepare a GP Mental Health Care Plan. This entitles you to six sessions of rebates, and after a review by your GP, another four sessions per calendar year. The current rebate is $83.25 per session of 50 minutes or longer.
I am also approved to do work under WorkCover.
A cancellation fee may be charged if 24 hours notice is not given.
